Hello, it’s been a while hasn’t it?
Life here at Alphabet Bands HQ has been pretty crazy over the last few years, but the itch to write has never gone away. So having come to the conclusion that my day job world is never actually going to calm down at all, I’ve decided to scratch that itch and start again.
The old wordpress version of Alphabet Bands still exists, if you wanted to go back and look at my old writing. I did, and some of it was pretty good, even if I do say so myself. I did try and import it all over here, but the formatting was awful, the media didn’t work and my ‘top posts’ were terrible missives from 2010 before I new what I wanted the site to be. So I’m clean-slating it and starting again.
That was a lot of waffle. You probably want to know what I’m going to be doing and why on earth I am emailing you. Well, you signed up to follow the old site via email, so you are now the first to know that Alphabet Bands is coming back.* What this will look like is still to be determined. I’m going to post once or twice a week, probably a bit in the old “What’s In The Box’ format where I run down a collection of tracks and give them a bit of a write-up. I may even add in some bits about music news and gossip for fun.
If you are new and have come here from a twitter post (is that even allowed anymore?) or similar. Welcome, you may well have been a reader of the old site but not a subscriber, you may just have stumbled upon the site by happy accident. All are welcome. If you haven’t already, please do sign up for free.
Substack looks to be an interesting place to be writing. I’m not going to start with it, but I may explore introducing paid content in the future, but again, I have no idea what that will look like.
What I do know is that in the next few days, you’ll get a little something in your inbox where I talk about my favourite albums of the last year. From then on, we’ll be on this ride together. Who knows where we’ll end up.
Before I head, off (and in part to check how the embedding of music thing works) here is a recent track from Transviolet, “Destroy, Destroy, Destroy”. Because all emails should include gloriously infectious pop music that drips with attitude as a close right?
*Yes, you can unsubscribe if you don’t want great new music sent straight to your inbox. I don’t know where, but I’m sure there is a button somewhere if you really want to leave so soon.
